The Canon Speedlite 580EX II is Canon's flagship Flash, with maximum Guide of 190' (58 m) at ISO 100 (at 105mm focal length), supports E-TTL II/E-TTL/TTL autoflash and features 20% shorter recycle time than previous generation and silent recycling. A host of improvements are introduced, including a metal hot shoe with an improved locking mechanism for added durability, an external metering sensor for non-TTL automatic flash exposure control and a PC Terminal for use with non-dedicated slave triggers. Fully compatible with all EOS SLRs, the Speedlite 580EX II is gasketed for dust and moisture resistance, making it possible for users to use flash safely when shooting in dusty or wet environments with EOS-1Ds Mark III/EOS-1D Mark III. The Speedlite 580EX flash is compatible with Canon's E-TTL II (Evaluative Through The Lens) auto exposure technology. When combined with a compatible Canon camera (EOS-1D/s Mark II, Mark III, D-20, Elan 7N/E, or newer models) and compatible lens, E-TTL II utilizes subject distance and other information that automatically modifies flash power, resulting in accurate flash exposure regardless of subject size, reflectance, or photographic composition.
